2 more cases confirmed

TEO XUANWEI

The tally of confirmed H1N1 cases here has hit seven in as many days, after the Ministry of Health (MOH) last night reported two new patients, one of which raises the possibility that another suspected case could be out there.

The sixth case, a 36-year-old Singaporean man who returned from Manila on Singapore Airlines flight SQ917 last Friday at 5.50pm, appeared to be well during the flight.

He went home by taxi and the next day, went out briefly in the morning. His symptoms only developed more than 24 hours after the flight, and he was confirmed infected yesterday at 2.40pm.

The man informed MOH that a passenger seated next to him at row 17 had appeared unwell and was coughing during the flight. The Ministry is reviewing the case and trying to identify the ill passenger to assess his health condition.

The seventh case is a 30-year-old Australian male tourist who arrived in Singapore from New York via Frankfurt on SQ 25 at 6.18am yesterday. He developed symptoms on May 26 when he was in New York. Prior to that, he had been in Chicago and Detroit

Upon arrival in Singapore, the man went straight to a clinic at Changi Airport and was sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital in a 993 ambulance.

Both cases confirmed yesterday have relatively mild symptoms and are in stable condition.

Contact tracing has been initiated for the close local contacts of both men, who will be quarantined and provided with antiviral prophylaxis.

MOH advised passengers seated within rows 52 to 56 on SQ 25 yesterday and who have not been contacted, to call its hotline at 1800 3339999 for health checks.
