MANILA, Philippines - Count the BOTAK Paa-tibayan Takbo 100KM run this Sunday among the A(H1N1) virus victims.

Organizers announced that except for the ultra-marathon races - 100km and 50km solo - all other events of the BOTAK Paa-tibayan Takbo are rescheduled because of requests from participants affected by the virus scare.

Originally set on June 28, the charity run, which aims to raise fund for the rehabilitation of the UP track and field oval, has reset the staging of the Street Mile, 5 and 10 mile races for Aug. 23 inside the University of the Philippines (UP) campus.

"We (organizers) had received a number of requests from our school participants who had been affected by the recent virus scare. Since BOTAK has been tapping grassroots participants and the bulk of our registrants came from the corporate and schools category, we had painstakingly considered a changed of schedule," the organizers said.

However, Christian Guzman of Protege Communications said that the 5 and 10 mile routes are part of quarantined areas inside UP.

This is the first time that a local sports event was directly affected by the virus scare.

Internationally, the Philippine football team to the 1st Asian Youth Games in Singapore was placed under quarantine after one of its players tested positive for the virus.

The squad was eventually delisted among the participants in the inaugural staging of the event, along with Hong Kong, which has four cases of A(H1N1). – Perry Legaspi, GMANews.TV
