Communicable Diseases Centre at Singapore's Tan Tock Seng Hospital
SINGAPORE: Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) has put in place a no-visitor rule at the Communicable Disease Centre 2 (CDC 2).
The clinical director of the Communicable Disease Centre at TTSH, Dr Leo Yee Sin, said patients at the centre will be kept as comfortable as possible.
Isolation rooms at the centre come with an attached bathroom and television sets.
She added that the hospital tries to help patients keep in touch with their loved ones, so they are allowed to bring their mobile phones along, and TTSH is working on setting up Internet access for them.
Currently eight people are being housed at the CDC 2. Six of them are suspect cases, while the other two are the index patient and her boyfriend.
TTSH said it has seen 155 suspected cases so far. Dr Leo said the hospital's emergency department sees an average of 10 patients a day.
She said it takes roughly half a day to confirm if a patient has the virus. If tests for H1N1 influenza A strain come up negative, patients will be released directly from the emergency department.
If results come back positive, samples are then sent to the National Public Health Labs to re-confirm the results. - CNA/vm
