SINGAPORE: The Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) will put in place additional precautionary measures to fight the H1N1 virus.

These include monitoring SAF personnel for flu-like symptoms, daily temperature checks and self-declaration by those who feel unwell.

SAF says its medical centres are stocked with Tamiflu and rapid test kits to diagnose flu cases.

Personnel who are infected with the H1N1 virus will be sent to public hospitals for treatment.

Those who have close contact with confirmed cases will be issued with Home Quarantine Orders and they will have to monitor their temperature and provide daily updates to their units.

Units with infected servicemen will be separated from other units in camp. Their premises will also be disinfected.

Other measures include screening all personnel who may be exposed to infected cases, taking nasal swabs for virus testing and prescribing them Tamiflu.

SAF says it will continue to monitor the situation and highlight the importance of social responsibility, vigilance and personnel hygiene to all staff.
