MANILA, Philippines - The Bureau of Food and Drugs (BFAD) has started preparing moves to recall the registration of "hardheaded" firms that continue to advertise their herbal products as a cure against A(H1N1).
New BFAD Director Nancy Tacandong said Monday they are consolidating a list of advertisements of herbal products claiming to be a cure for A(H1N1).
"Una niyan kung ang produkto na registered sa BFAD, pwede ipa-recall ang product registration. Ang product di dapat ina-advertise nang walang register sa BFAD (First of all, we can recall the registration of the product before the BFAD. Products cannot just be advertised indiscriminately)," Tacandong said in an interview in a radio interview.
But she said the BFAD would first exhaust all "peaceful" means to have the firms pull out their "misleading" ads from newspapers, radio and television.
Earlier, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III warned the public that such ads are misleading and should not continue to be published or aired.
Duque said he has ordered the BFAD to act on such ads.

Tacandong said she has ordered the BFAD's legal department to draw up a list of firms and products with ads claiming to cure A(H1N1).
"Akin pong ni-request kung pwedeng tingnan ang produkto sa dyaryo at TV para malaman ano ang produktong ito (para) matawag ang kumpanya para itigil ang advertisement (I requested the legal department to check the product ads in radio and TV to identify these products. I will then call up the firms involved and ask them to stop this advertisement)," she said.
"Kung di sila sumunod maaaring bigyan ng parusa kung tawagin para sa establishment. Normally bigyan namin ng warning, normally kumpanya sunod naman sa BFAD (If they refuse to follow, we can punish them. But normally when we give them a warning, they comply immediately)," she added. - GMANews.TV
