BEIJING — Chinese authorities have reported nine more cases of swine flu, including six cases of domestic transmission, while Hong Kong has reported three new cases.

The Health Ministry said that four Chinese women and two men caught the virus in southwest Sichuan province. At least three other people have also caught swine flu domestically.

It also reported cases in a Chinese-American woman in Shanghai, an American boy in the southeastern city of Fuzhou, in Fujian province, and an American-Chinese boy who had recently arrived from San Francisco.

Out of China's 89 cases, 39 are still being treated, according to the official Xinhua News Agency.

The Chinese-ruled territory of Hong Kong also reported another three cases late Monday, bringing the total number to 41.

The new cases included two women who recently traveled to Las Vegas via Los Angeles and a man studying in Switzerland, the government said in a statement. All three were hospitalized in isolation.

Hong Kong leader Donald Tsang said Tuesday that the government will start a swine flu vaccination program.

It will include 5 million doses of vaccine and give priority to about 2 million people: medical staff, children aged between six months and six, the elderly, and people with health conditions, said health chief York Chow.

The World Health Organization says that as of Monday 73 countries have officially reported more than 25,000 have been infected, including 139 deaths. - AP
