MANILA, Philippines - At least 16 Filipinos were quarantined in Shanghai but eventually released after a fellow passenger on their flight registered a possible symptom of A(H1N1), the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said Wednesday.

"Post reported that 16 Filipinos have been released from quarantine in Shanghai following the negative test result of the Chinese national who was earlier suspected of having contracted A(H1N1)," the DFA said on its website (www.dfa.gov.ph), citing a report from the Philippine Consulate General in China's most populous city.

It said the Filipinos, who it did not name, were put into quarantine upon arrival in Shanghai from Manila.

Airport authorities noted their fellow passenger, a Chinese national, was found to have a body temperature of 37.9 degrees Celsius.

The Chinese national stayed one week in the Philippines, the DFA said.
"During their stay in Shanghai Yichen Hotel for medical observation, Post contacted the Filipinos to assure them of the Consulate's support," the DFA said. - GMANews.TV
