Foreign tourists arrive at Incheon International Airport, west of Seoul
SEOUL - South Korea Monday confirmed its 22nd case of Influenza A (H1N1) following a sharp weekend rise in reported infections, the health ministry said.
A spokesman said a 24-year-old American teacher is the latest victim. The male teacher of English lives in the same building as a US woman previously confirmed as an A (H1N1) flu case.
The 24-year-old has been quarantined in hospital since Sunday.
Over the weekend health authorities confirmed infections in three children who arrived from New York early Sunday, and in eight foreigners who had trained together to work as English teachers along with the US woman.
Yonhap news agency said Sunday that some of the foreigners had been sent to language institutes in different cities nationwide before being quarantined, sparking health concerns.
The total number of A(H1N1) flu cases worldwide now exceeds 12,000, including 86 deaths.
