SINGAPORE: With the H1N1 virus on Singapore's shores, Channel NewsAsia finds out how locals are reacting to the news.
Singapore's index case was a Singapore Management University (SMU) student who had returned from a study trip in New York. She tested positive for the H1N1 virus on Tuesday night.
Though Singapore's first case of the H1N1 flu is making headlines, most of the SMU students are more concerned about their exams.
One student said: "We actually hoped the exams would be cancelled today."
The second said: "What I'm more worried about is the exams, so that is on my mind now (rather) than H1N1."
Another said: "My first thought was that SMU is going to be infamous!"
While the student who caught the H1N1 flu has not been back to the school since she returned to Singapore, at least one worker was concerned about the spread of the virus on campus.
The worker said: "I'm so worried about this. I will protect myself."
However, most members of the public interviewed by Channel NewsAsia said they were not afraid of contracting the virus.
Many also said they were confident the government is capable of handling the H1N1 situation.
